Ligue 1 McDonald's • Journée 29 WEEKEND OF APRIL 23-25, 2027 ALLIANZ RIVIERA
After returning to the top flight in 2015, Angers SCO quickly established themselves among France’s elite, even surpassing the symbolic 50-point mark during the 2015-16 season. They then took their supporters to the Stade de France for the 2017 Coupe de France final, where they were beaten by Paris Saint-Germain. Built around values such as humility and selflessness since the club was founded in 1919, the “Black & Whites” have also helped bring through a number of talented players in recent years, including Sofiane Boufal, Romain Saïss, Karl Toko-Ekambi and Nicolas Pépé.
Despite creating several clear-cut chances and pushing hard in the closing stages, Les Aiglons fell to a 1-0 home defeat against Angers SCO. Yassin Belkhdim scored the only goal of the game on the half-hour mark, capitalising on Nice losing possession before finishing off a well-worked Angers move. Earlier, Sofiane Diop and then Juma Bah had both threatened the visitors’ defence, but neither managed to hit the target.
Reduced to ten men following Tom Louchet’s second-half dismissal, Nice threw everything forward in search of an equaliser. Morgan Sanson, Isak Jansson and Tanguy Ndombele were all denied by an inspired Hervé Koffi, who remained decisive right until the final whistle. It was a frustrating evening for Le Gym, who were beaten despite an encouraging response in the final 15 minutes.
In the last 10 meetings with Angers SCO in Ligue 1, OGC Nice have recorded 7 wins, 1 draw and 2 defeats, scoring 18 goals and conceding 6.
Having burst onto the scene at a very young age with Angers, Mohamed-Ali Cho made his mark by becoming one of the youngest players ever to feature in Ligue 1, at just 16 years of age. It was with SCO that he truly broke through during the 2021-22 season, making 32 appearances and scoring 4 goals.
Direct, quick and unpredictable, the forward impressed with his maturity and his ability to unsettle opposition defences. Those performances earned him a move to Real Sociedad in La Liga. After a valuable spell in Spain, the France U21 international returned to France during the 2024 winter transfer window, joining Le Gym.
In his first few months in red and black, Mohamed-Ali Cho showed his full potential, most notably with a memorable goal against Paris SG. During the 2024-25 season, he made 27 appearances, scoring 3 goals and providing 3 assists.
The Stade Raymond Kopa has a capacity of 19,800, while the distance between the stadium and the Allianz Riviera is 731 km as Mèfi flies !
