Founded in 1944 following the merger of Olympique Lillois and SC Fives, LOSC Lille are one of the major clubs in French football. Their honours include five French league titles, the most recent of which came in 2021, as well as six Coupes de France. The club also made its mark on recent history by completing a league and Coupe de France double in 2011 under Rudi Garcia.
Regulars in European competition, Lille have enjoyed several notable Champions League campaigns and have helped develop a number of talented players, including Eden Hazard, Mathieu Debuchy, Lucas Digne and Jonathan David.
Solid defensively and highly disciplined, OGC Nice secured an impressive 2-0 home victory over LOSC. Up against a Lille side who dominated possession but struggled to make the most of it in the final third, Les Aiglons produced a tactically disciplined display, underpinned by an outstanding performance from Yehvann Diouf.
After several crucial saves from the Senegalese goalkeeper, Les Aiglons opened the scoring from the penalty spot after Kevin Carlos was brought down, with Sofiane Diop converting with a Panenka.
After the break, the Rouge et Noir stood firm before doubling their advantage late on through Isak Jansson, who scored his first goal for Le Gym. The result secured a third consecutive league victory for Nice.
The Stade Pierre-Mauroy has a capacity of 50,180, while the distance between the stadium and the Allianz Riviera is 827 km as Mèfi flies !
Dante began his European adventure with LOSC, where he got his first taste of Ligue 1 between 2004 and 2006. In northern France, the commanding Brazilian defender took his first steps on the continent, laying the foundations for an exceptional career. After establishing himself in Belgium and then impressing at Mönchengladbach under Lucien Favre, he went on to become a key figure at Bayern Munich, where he notably won the Champions League in 2013. A Brazil international and a World Cup semi-finalist in 2014, Dante returned to Ligue 1 in 2016 when he joined OGC Nice. He has since become a true Le Gym legend. An exemplary captain and a leader in the dressing room, he came to embody Nice’s consistency and defensive strength. In 2023-24, despite being over 40, he remained the club’s most-used outfield player and continued his Rouge et Noir journey with the same passion. During the 2024-25 season, he made 25 appearances as captain. Dante hung up his boots at the end of the 2025-26 season, a campaign marked by a Coupe de France final against RC Lens and, above all, by Nice securing their Ligue 1 status against Saint-Étienne.
A former OGC Nice player between 2012 and 2016, Jérémy Pied showed plenty of foresight when negotiating a contract extension with LOSC ahead of the 2020-21 season. During the talks, he asked for a bonus to be included in the event of Lille winning the French league title, a request that initially raised a few smiles. Convinced that the title was destined to remain with PSG, the club’s directors agreed to the clause. In the end, LOSC defied expectations and went on to win Ligue 1 that very season.
