Tickets : OGC Nice - Lorient

History and honours

Founded in 1926, Football Club de Lorient spent many years striving to establish themselves as a professional club before earning promotion to the top flight of French football for the first time in 1998, having finished second in a Ligue 2 BKT campaign won by AS Nancy Lorraine.

The club would later appoint Christian Gourcuff as first-team coach, with the Frenchman helping Lorient establish themselves at professional level and enjoy several seasons in Ligue 1 Uber Eats. In 2014, after more than 10 years at the club, Gourcuff left to take on a new challenge, but he remains an iconic figure in Les Merlus’ history to this day.

FC Lorient’s honours include a Ligue 2 BKT title, won in 2020, as well as one Coupe de France.

Last home meeting: 22/02/2026

At the end of a dramatic and cruel encounter, OGC Nice were held to a 3-3 draw at home by FC Lorient on Matchday 23 of Ligue 1.

Clinical on the counter-attack, Les Aiglons looked set for their first home league win of the year for long periods, thanks in particular to a brace from Tom Louchet, who was twice superbly set up by an inspired Mohamed-Ali Cho.

Despite Lorient enjoying much of the possession, Claude Puel’s men made the most of their chances and even moved two goals clear after the break. But Les Merlus refused to give in, first pulling one back through a direct free-kick from Pablo Pagis before Bamba Dieng converted from the penalty spot.

Despite having several opportunities to put the game beyond reach, the Rouge et Noir were eventually pegged back in stoppage time when Noah Cadiou fired a shot in off the underside of the crossbar. It was a particularly frustrating equaliser for Le Gym, who were denied victory in the dying moments after having led for more than 80 minutes.

Ligue 1 head-to-head

In the last 10 meetings with FC Lorient in Ligue 1, OGC Nice have recorded 3 wins, 5 draws and 2 defeats, scoring 14 goals and conceding 12.

Anecdote

FC Lorient are one of the few football clubs to have been founded by a woman. In 1926, Caroline Cuissard was behind the creation of the team, which was originally made up of fishermen, while she herself worked as a fishmonger.

The club’s first shirts were blue, before her daughter, Charlotte Cuissard, made the first orange and black kits, which she embroidered and knitted by hand. Those colours remain emblematic of the club to this day.
