Ligue 1 McDonald's • Journée 21 WEEKEND OF FEBRUARY 19-21, 2027 ALLIANZ RIVIERA
Founded in 1905, AJ Auxerre is an iconic club in French football, shaped by the lasting legacy of Guy Roux, who managed the team for more than 40 years. The club enjoyed its greatest period between 1994 and 2005, winning a total of four French Cups, including a historic league-and-cup double in 1996.
Among its most memorable European campaigns were a UEFA Cup semi-final appearance in 1993 and qualification for the UEFA Champions League in 2010, where Auxerre faced a formidable group featuring Cristiano Ronaldo’s Real Madrid, AC Milan and Ajax Amsterdam.
Renowned for its youth academy, the club has produced players such as Éric Cantona, Djibril Cissé and Bacary Sagna. After a decade in Ligue 2, Auxerre returned to Ligue 1 for the 2022–23 season and is aiming to establish itself in the top flight on a long-term basis under the ownership of the ORG Group.
During the 2024–25 season, AJ Auxerre finished 11th in Ligue 1 McDonald’s.
After an ideal start to the match, rewarded in the opening minutes, Les Aiglons responded perfectly to Auxerre’s comeback to secure a convincing 3–1 victory. After being pegged back, Nice regained the lead before half-time thanks to an own goal from Clément Akpa, forced by sustained pressure from the home side. With their attacking threat rediscovered and a jubilant Allianz Riviera behind them, Le Gym claimed their first win of the season against a determined Auxerre side.
Over the last 10 Ligue 1 meetings with AJ Auxerre, OGC Nice have recorded 3 wins, 3 draws and 4 defeats, scoring 11 goals and conceding 11.
An AJ Auxerre fan won €3 million in the lottery, and his first purchase was to book seats in a VIP box for his entire family to attend the final match of the 2022–23 season against Lens.
The Stade Abbé Deschamps has a capacity of 18,540 spectators and is located 533 km from the Allianz Riviera as the Mèfi flies.
